October 18, 2007

Maureen continues to make progress. She was transferred to a beautiful suite at Scottsdale Healthcare today. Thank you to our friend Tom Sadvary and all the caring professionals at that fine hospital. Dr. Janicek came to visit tonight at about 8:30 pm after performing 4 surgeries today. He's learned already of my lack of patience. As a true professional he kindly put me in my place. He reminded me that there are no shortcuts in this healing process. He reminded me that the surgery was successful and necessary, but it was one step in the process. There continues to be fluid build-up and he may decide to drain the area (via surgical ultra-sound). He's trying the application of a latex agent tonight that he hopes will accelerate the processing of these fluids into the bloodstream and through Maureen's system. He told us prior to surgery that this was possible and that if the buildup doesn't curtail he'd like to begin chemo either Saturday or Sunday. He told Maureen: "my money is on you and we will beat this. We will get to remission". He's asked us (me actually) to be patient with the process and that the road is long. I know that he shoots straight and will not withhold any information. Dr. J. reminded us that Maureen is young and healthy. Progress is being made and we will keep up the fight.

Maureen walked around a little today and took solid foods. Connor spent the night last night with her and probably will again tonight. He pursuaded her to watch "The Office" episodes today. She is very pleased to have Connor at her side.

The new room (suite actually) is very nice, complete with a hide-a-bed and a stairmaster. I wouldn't be surprised to show up tomorrow and find her stepping away. When I left tonight, Maureen was looking for her toothbrush and asking the nurses to also bring an extra for Connor! Progress is being made.

We can never thank all of you enough for your kind support of prayers and good thoughts. You are the strength we need. Reading these messages to Maureen brings tears and smiles simultaneously. I'm also amazed at all the "survivors" out there that approach me daily with support and encouragement. It's like zombies coming out at night, but they are healthy and happy and full of hope. I'm touched by this.

We didn't ask for this journey, but we're up to the task. Thanks to all of you. Mike.

We're with you guys! - Dick Casey

Love from Los Gatos - Charlene Rex
Maureen, we are so happy to hear of your steady steps toward recovery.
Each encouraging report of your progress warms our hearts and we rejoice. We know that behind each step forward are challenges that test you, and we just want to cheer you on and tell you how much we admire your inner strenth and resolve. We haven't known you very long, but it has been time enough to recognize what a beautiful person you are, and that your inner beauty and peaceful spirit are special gifts. We know that these qualities will see you through the tough times and be a comfort and inspiration to those around you. May you continue to feel all the love surrounding you, and draw on that love to heal and be well.

Mike, thank you for sharing Maureen's and your family's journey of healing. In doing so, you're giving all of us the opportuity to be a part of the healing; we are being brought together to experience a wonderful Oneness, a cosmic life force that connects us all to each other and to the best in ourselves. It has the power to be a contageous miracle, and spread into every aspect of all of the lives it touches; best of all, it has the power to help Maureen be well.

We send our love and continued prayers to you both, as well to JP, Connor, and Joe. May you all be at peace, knowing that Maureen is going to be fine.

Fondly, Charlene and Bill

Hugs from the Lindquists - Lorrae Lindquist
Dear Maureen, Mike and family,
So glad to hear that your surgery went well and that the reports are good! You have been in our thoughts and prayers so very often since we heard the news of your diagnosis. Thank you so much for taking the time to post the daily updates so that we can all share in your progress. My Bible study group at Gloria Dei added you to our prayers and will continue to do so in the months ahead. Some members of our group know you or Mike personally, but nearly everyone in the group knew some member of your family either on the Green side or the Casey side. That is just South Dakota for you!
We love you lots,
Bill, Lorrae and the Boys

More prayers from Colorado - and Thanks for the Updates! - Judy Kludt
Maureen - We are getting on our computer every morning to get your update. Not that knowing would effect the amount of prayers and heeling thoughts we are sending your way - upward to GOD and shooting them right back down to you in Phoenix/Scottsdale.
Mike, bless you for the updates, this is a wonderful way to communicate with all of us concerned family and friends.
Once again to you Maureen, Mike and your family - many prayers to you all and lots of Love!
Paul & Judy Kludt and family

Beautiful Maureen - Elaine DuBois
I will never forget how your eyes lit up when I walked in the room last night. It was so great to see your smile and to catch up. That is a terrific hospital and it was nice that the nurse snuck me in to the ICU unit during shift change. She is a sweetheart. Hopefully you will be in a regular room when I come next time.
God Bless you and your amazing family.
Love,
Elaine DuBois

We are still with you - Linda & Max Selig
We are still with you and think of you two every day. If prayer can help heal you should be well before you know it. There is alaways a purpose for these things that happen although we can't always know what it is. Be strong in your faith and strong in your body. I know you can beat this!! Lin Selig

Chamberlain is there in spirit! - Terry Casey
Day 3 and we are marching to winning the battle. The prayers and well wishers are coming from everywhere. Father Bill continues to mention you during Mass each day. That would bring the "pray-ers" as Fr. Tom refers to this faithful group, and I don't think that we have a 10l year old, but I do see 89yr old Dr. Holland attend as a server each morning. Please keep the daily postings coming no matter what time of day---they are a most helpful message for all of us that can't be with you. Reading the many other prayers that come in daily is terrific. Love and hugs to you all. Mom and Dad

For All of Life - Catherine Billion
As the Madison SD Green family gathered for our farewell brunch, Oct.7th, Respect Life Sunday, we sang our prayer, thinking of Maureen Casey and Bobby Creamer (AK), the only two of 13 siblings who were unable to attend our "It's Not Easy Bein' Green" reunion. Mom and family sang this for you (with Alice on the left piano hand and Catherine struggling on the right hand), without knowledge of your health condition. One can listen to the song at http://www.jwpepper.com/catalog/lsearch
(in Keyword search box, type: "For All OF Life")
I will sing it here again for you:

...WE THANK YOU GOD, for all of life; the joy of birth, a baby's cry, for loving arms and lullabies. We thank You God, for life! We thank You God , for innocence, for childhood dreams, laughter and friends, the strength of youth, the growth of mind. We thank You God of life. For all of life is a gift, a child's first step, a bride's first kiss; and every stage, unique and precious, every day, a gift from YOU. We thank you God for joy and tears, wisdom that comes from many years, the pow'r of love, the hope we find in families based on Your design. For every breath from birth to death, we thank You God, for all of life. We thank You God, for ALL of LIFE!

I am marveling at His plan, here, Maureen and Mike; I marvel at the life that has sprung up from your sharing this trial with us! We all thank you for your courage and acceptance of His plan for our lives. May you, Joe & Katie, Connor, and JP be surrounded by His holy angels and His love, always. Jesus, I trust in You.

Maureen, Mike and boys! Thank you so much for the updates, they are so very helpful. We continue to pray for you all. The boys love the message from Mike the other day "from a childs lips to GODS ears", and are taking it to heart! At Mass the other day, Cameron leaned over and told Tracy that he prayed for Aunt Maureen 3 times! And then a group prayer with his teachers and classmates at Religious Ed! We love you very much. Collin, Tracy, Sean, Cameron and Jacob.

Good Morning Maureen - Joan Lentner
This is a message from Joan (at the Lowry Hill Minneapolis office). Just letting you know that I was at the noon mass at St. Olaf yesterday and you were lifted in prayer. Having had colon cancer I do know the physical & emotional journey that one takes. But I am living proof that with all of the prayers, love and support of family & friends we make it and life is so very precious. Just know that as you go on this journey I will be your earthly prayer angel...praying for you everyday. I would like to share a special moment I had when I returned to work after my surgery - Mike (your husband) made a special call to check and see how I was doing because he said not many emails had been sent out on my progress. To this day I am still so touched by his simple kindness and I will never forget the impact of that call. So be assured that whatever strength you need today, God will be right by your side. Words of encouragement, there is life after cancer and it is very good. You are going to make it...our prayers will help you. Wishing you the best day possible.
I enjoyed the update.
Joan

Prayers from Minnesota - Terrie Jorgensen
Mike - Thanks for the update. This will be a long healing process - the good news is that the healing process has begun. It sounds like Maureen is getting the best possible care and I'm thrilled that you're happy with the doctor. Your strength and love for Maureen is helping with this process. We're here in MN pulling for you and praying everyday (several times). Give Maureen a kiss for me today and tell her to stay off of the stair master for at least another day.
Love, Terrie, Dick & Jenny

Good morning! - Susan Arzt
Dear Mike and Maureen,
Please know that even I don't post messages every day you're in my thoughts and prayers. I smiled today, Mike, when you mentioned your impatience. It's all a process and you learn so much along the way. Stay strong and positive -- it's what really heals the most. Take good care of each other.
Sue

Prayers from the River City - Doug Knust
Maureen:
We're so pleased to hear of your progress. We continue to pray for your speedy recovery.
Thank you for the daily updates Mike. It was so nice to be able to read your updates while we were gone. We're praying for your patience as well and are much more optimistic about Maureen's recovery than your patience!! Ha!!
Joe and Katie, Connor, and JP, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers as well.
May God give each of you the strength you need for this journey.
Love,
Judy & Doug Knust

Wishing you the beary best and praying for all of you! - Joan Buckley
Hi Maureen,
A suite for the sweet! I am so happy that you have graduated to the floor and solid food! Great steps forward in your healing!
Mike, thanks for sharing and allowing us to be a part of Maureen's recovery and healing. Patience is a toughie for a lot of us and hospitals...well, I think that they operate in an alternative time dimension.
Here's my hint for getting a doctor to vist you or for an orderly to take you to an Xray, etc. - take a shower! They always seemed to appear when I was taking a shower!
Closing in prayer - Gentle Jesus, send your Holy Spirit to alleviate Maureen's swelling. Grant the Caseys a peaceful night of rest. Bless the Casey family and the caregivers. AMEN!
In Christ,
joan b

Prayers from South Dakota! - Nancy Gerdes

Love You All - Lizzy Hofer
Dear Mike, Maureen, Joe and Katie, Connor, and JP,
Well I think of each one of you always and am sending you each a gentle, but full hug with tears of love and a smile of admiration (aka-laughing while you're crying?) There are so many things that I, as I'm sure everyone, would like to do to help. We do feel very helpless. But I know in our helplessness it is God who is glorified, for then we see it is He who is doing everything!! So, in our brokeness, He is complete, completely in charge. The Voice of Truth says "Do not be afraid". Praying you feel Him living in you, calming each of you and strengthening you. I love you all so very much, Lizzy P.S. The Friedow Christmas is this wknd in Madison, I'll let you know what SANTA brought me!

From Kerry Milligan - Kerry Milligan

PS: You still owe us a dinner date! We're not lettin' you out of it that easy!
Lots of Love,
