October 20, 2007

Maureen was eating cookies and Ice cream tonight when an add came on TV for beer. She asked if I'd get her a cold beer. Not w/ those painkillers! More progress. Unfortunately the swelling continues, so they're going to drain some tomorrow hopefully. Dr. Janicek was in and said he'd like to start chemo on Monday. We'll be in the hospital for that. The highlight of the day was a visit by Maureen's favorite friend, Telluride. He's our perfect dog. He was so excited to see Maureen that it took all our power to keep him from jumping up on her. Tellie is good medicine. That's it for now. Mike.

"Night-night" Maureen - Catherine Billion
As Mom always says, "Night-night." Tonight Mary and I watched, "Les Choristes," (The Chorus)...way too late. I'm going to rent it for you to watch when we come down to see you. We're looking forward to your picking up your guitar and playing some of the fun tunes you prepared for us to sing at the reunion. As for patience, Mike, yes, it's a virtue, but so is courage. You are the advocate-for-life for Maureen, and we really appreciate your challenging for the best care possible for our sister. You keep asking those questions, sir, and I will give you a prize when I see you! You are doing a superb job. We love you all very much and wish you all a very good night sleep tonight! Night, night, darling sister.

South Dakota Family- Terry Casey
It's eleven pm and we are heading to bed after a long day in the fields. Sam McClenahan and Gene Hassel joined us for dinner after the hunt and we are heading to bed with pretty sore bodies. Lots of walking, nice weather and success in the field. Our thoughts were in Scottsdale and we continue to pray that your day went well. Love and hugs to all of you.
Love, Mom and Dad and Anna <3>

from Auntie Kathy and Auntie Gini - Dick Casey
Hi Maureen and Mike...Gini and I are doggie sitting for Rudy at Dick's house tonight. And thinking of you so much...hope you are doing ok...we wish we were there to give you lots of hugs. Bev and Dick are at the hospital, as Dutch is not doing well, and they are in our prayers, too. Like good Irish girls, we made a trip to the liquor store and stocked up on some delightful whiskey and a wee bit of wine and Guiness. And tomorrow we are going to have a little party for Gr. Casey to celebrate her 93rd birthday. Mind you, we will be going to Mass to pray for you all, so if you feel the "Love" tomorrow, it's because we're sending our prayers to you across the sky. Oh, how we love you so! Good night our dears. xoxox Aunties

Prayers are with you - Jim Hostutler
Dear Maureen and Mike, Know that the community of St. Bernadette is lifting your family up in prayer. During the petitions when I mention your name I offer a special prayer for continued improvement.
I too am a survivor and I know that the power of prayer is what made it possible to be a survivor. 4 years ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer and was operated on and had chemo for 6 months and recent test show i am cancer free, Praise God for that.
Scottsdale Shea campus is #1 in my book for care.
Blessings and smiles,
Deacon Jim Hostutler
St. Bernadette Parish

A visit to the Grotto for Maureen - Patrick Goetzinger
A candle was lit for Maureen at the Grotto on Notre Dame campus Saturday with the prayer that all blessings be directed toward Maureen, Mike, the boys and Katie. Evidently, all blessings were directed your way and none were left for the Fighting Irish as USC whipped them pretty good. I'll take that result any day. The Grotto is a powerful place where God's miracles are celebrated and foretold. We have a bounty of miracles to celebrate and will have many, many more as your journey progresses. Cheers. The Pat & Erin Goetzinger Clan

Hi Maureen! - Kathy Miller
Your Aunties have been thinking of you today...of course! And we'll be thinking of you tomorrow, the next day, the next....there are lots of members of the Class of '66, MHS, pulling for you, praying for you.
Tonight we had a little party for Gr. Casey, and I will send some pictures to your email one of these days. Terry and Sharon drove all the way to SF, and then drove back, just to be here for Mom. How nice is that?! We topped off the party with a little sing-a-long and before we knew it, we had some uninvited, but welcome guests, coming out of their rooms in the memory care unit, to enjoy the entertainment. It was so funny! What sweet people!
Love, love, love to you, Mike, Connor, JP, Joe, Katie....Auntie Kathy

Ice cream, cookies, and a visit from TELLURIDE!, bless his heart. Sounds like progress and great medicine, indeed! We're thinking of you, Maureen, with positive thoughts for getting rid of that fluid and being more comfortable...and we see a cold beer in your future, so you keep working on that one! How 'bout a N/A?? - Laura Gassen
As I was just reading the last update, I was thinking...as I am 5 months pregnant, and can't drink alcohol either, what about a N/A beer?? Maybe that's a stretch-Dr. J and the nurses my protest, and it's not the same, but of course it's better than none, and I know Maureen likes beer! As my family knows, I like to push the envelope and keep questioning things. Anything to make it more like home! Take care and lots of love and prayers are with you!
Faith, Hope, and Love,
Laura Gassen

Maureen,
What an amazing show of support and love - you are so special to so many people, all around the world. Of course, it comes as no surprise!
It was wonderful to see you last week. Although our visit was brief, it was so reassuring to see your positive spirit and strength shining through in your smile. As always, you are such an inspiration and such a wonderful friend. Work is not the same without you & I miss my lunch date! Let me know when you are ready and we can start scheduling lunch again soon. You are in our prayers daily. See you soon!

More South Dakota people - Debra Larson
Jim and I meet Mary Jo and David Christensen last night at the Casa art event. We just happened to be talking to them, about South Dakota, and lo and behold we found out they are good friends of yours. They are praying for Maureen.
When may we organize meals to be delivered to your home. A team is standing by to do that!

Prayers from Texas - Courtney Powell
Hello Mike, Maureen and clan! We enjoy reading the updates, Mike, so please keep them coming. We are glad to hear that everything has gone as well as expected so far, and feel that Maureen asking for a cold beer has GOT to be a good sign! We are sending prayers and thoughts your way from Texas every day, especially as you start chemo today. Stay strong - we believe in you!

Time to Smile Maureen - Joan Lentner
You came to mind a few minutes ago and I thought I would send a message to brighten your day. You will have all the strength and courage you need from God to deal with each and every moment of this day. As the sun continues to shine warmly and brightly on the earth may you feel the warmth and the love that is flowing to you from all of the family and friends who care so much about you. Just think how far you have come since surgery....wanting a beer...that in itself is a great sign.
Wishing you a great day from Lowry Hill Minneapolis!
Joan Lentner

Sending a whole bunch of love! - Kathy Miller
Hi Maureen....I'm sending you hugs and prayers today. And just so you know, the choir members of St. James Cathedral in Orlando, FL., are now praying for you. Their prayers are powerful! You are loved so much! Auntie Kathy

About the picture... - Margaret Bean
Maureen, as you can see from the photo "we got a lot done!" (Notice the wine in Lizzy's hand). The good news is you were elected chairman of the "cotton room cleaning party." The bad news is (and don't tell Mom) we moved most of the junk from the cedar room into the cotton room.

For Maureen - Laurel Costello
Hi Mike and Maureen. I was in Aberdeen when I heard about Maureen's illness and surgery. Please know that I am praying for her each day and that I have every confidence that she will beat this. She is young and has excellent medical care and many people who love her and support her.
Fondly,
Laurel Costello (Terry's cousin)

Stay strong and believe - Ann Boerhave
Hi Maureen & Mike,
So glad to hear things are progressing for you. I know from experience it is not an easy fight but keep up the faith! Wanted to thank you for remembering us in your prayers during this difficult time, you are also in ours. Lyle gave us a great scare this weekend when he developed pneumonia. Not a good situation for a leukemia patient. The prognosis was grim but thanks to many prayers he seems to be getting better. There are not words to express what you are going through but just know that God is by your side and Lyle is living proof that He is listening to all our prayers. Hope to continue to hear good news from you! If you ever need to talk to someone going through some of the same, please don't hesitate to call anytime. All our love, the Boerhaves.

Did you say you wanted a beer or a bear? - Joan Buckley
Dear Maureen,
I was glad to hear that while you were eating cookies and ice cream, you really would liked to have a beer!
We hold you and your family in our hearts and prayers constantly.
God bless you,
Joan B.

Great Grandma Casey sends her love at 93 years old... - Jeanne Hassel
Hey Casey's in AZ... it's Jeanne. Just a quick message of love and prayers from South Dakota. Spent the morning with Great Grandma Casey who turns 93 in 2 days. She got her hair done today and felt sooooo good that we put on a sweater and a blanket and went for a stroll in her wheelschair around the front of Waterford... don't know if you remember but that sits on a hill and our adventurous side took hold on this beautiful fall day and off we went... well what goes down had to come back up... Grandma was laughing as I panted and pushed and somehow made it back! whew! She loved it outside and we managed to pick up a few beautiful fall leaves of many colors which she loved... when we arrived back inside we found out that the SD Symphony was practicing up in the Chapel... so off we went... 4 members were playing and we were the ONLY audience... it was wonderful... we said a prayer for all of you! Take care and remember we LOVE YOU!!!!
Jeanne & Great Grandma Lois
