June 04, 2008

God is Good! Mike and I said prayers on the way to the Dr’s office this morning, then were ecstatic to receive the news that my CA125 tumor count has dropped to 24 (back to normal, and the lowest its been)! This was an unexpected surprise. Tears of joy are flowing steadily, and thanks to God, constantly.

Borrowing the Dr’s words, we are “cautiously optimistic” that we have bought some time, and the cancer is gone for now. The film review showed one small spot lighting up which he said could be either an inflammation or tumor. Dr. Janicek’s habit is to be overly proactive and conservative (ordering the PET scan demonstrates this). He is confident that it is an inflammation caused by the drain I carried for weeks (such things take months to heal), and given the normal tumor count.

So, no more chemo in sight for now. We will monitor my condition by having a tumor count taken monthly to watch its level, and another PET scan in 3 to 4 months. If the area lighting up has decreased in size, it is tissue healing. If it increases in size, it is tumor, and we will determine our next action at that time.

While I was in his office I had expected to sit for my next round of chemo, but instead I autographed the great “Graduation Ribbon!” Whew! Praise the Lord! Now, I can begin my physical recovery to rebuild my weary body. I have weddings to attend, trips to plan, and champagne to drink! Again, I owe so much to all of you out there. From the bottom of our hearts, Mike and I THANK YOU for your support!

To your prayers, God has been listening, and showed His mercy and might. Love always,
Maureen

Alleluia! Thank you, Jesus! Joan Buckley
Hey you Caseys! Here is the daily prayer from the Holy Cross people (they send it every day.) I wanted to share it with you - it just seemed so right for today!
The Lord led his people to freedom and they shouted with joy and gladness. (Ps 104)
Lord Jesus, we come before you in prayer this day shouting with joy and gladness in our hearts for all that you have done for us. As we celebrate this Easter joy, may we be mindful of the many ways that you bless us each day with your love. We ask this in your name. Amen.
I just think of that scripture passage and think, yes, Lord, you led Maureen and her family into the freedom from illness. We are all shouting with JOY!

Our God is an Awesome God! Kathy Miller
We are so very happy to hear your wonderful news! I started reading your update to Steve and could hardly get the words out thru my tears of joy! The power of prayer is evidenced today. Your wonderful news is filling this house with a JOY that has been subdued for a very long time. Yesterday was a restless day so I went to church and lit a couple candles and just felt God's presence. Now I, too, wish for your family a return to a normal life of enjoying each other and looking forward Joe and Katie's return from Japan. Love, Mom

My dearest Maureen: praise the Lord for your wonderful healing! Also praise the Lord for modern medicine, research, and your brilliant caring physician! I love you so much my dearest Maureen. All my love,Terry.

May 20, 2008

Our visitor for a few days last week was Larry Hartog, a friend from college days (pictured on the left). He introduced Mike and I at the “Copper Dollar” bar, and he can take credit for an “assist” on our 25+ years of marriage. He had a little more hair back then, but so did I! We had a wonderful time reminiscing and catching up on our lives of today.

My appointment for the PET Scan is next Tuesday, but won’t see the results until we meet with the doctor on Wednesday, June 4. Until then, I can enjoy a short window of feeling better, not having chemo for a few weeks.

The paragraph below I find quite meaningful. I don’t remember where I picked this up, so admit I am guilty of plagiarism. Whoever wrote it, way to go!

“There is no pain, no loss, no disappointment, no ending, that can escape God's
touch and ability to transform. There is no part of our lives, or the world's,
that we need be afraid to look at, no matter how dark and scary. For in Christ,
we can find hope and new life. Only a God of glory could accomplish that!
God's glory isn't in the pain, as much as in what God can do to bring life out
of pain and death---the way God did in Christ.”

Summer is here! Be safe, and enjoy!
Maureen

Hi Maureen Joan Lentner
I took a walk on my lunch break today and spent a few minutes at church. I sat by the Blessed Virgin and lifted you up for all that you may need today. Tomorrow I will pray for Wednesday's needs.
Wishing you a great day!

Maureen Joan Lentner
Every day I think of you and wonder what kind of a day you are going to have. I then of course pray that it will be a really good one. I know that you are apprehensive with the upcoming tests in June...it's o.k. to be unsure because we are human. God does understand our concerns. Trust me I have had many, many days dealing with the ups and downs frame of mind. In the end it does work out and along the way there were many people praying to get us through those unsure moments. So you can be apprehensive and we will continue with the prayers. I sure don't have the answers, but I am assured more and more of the power of prayer. And so for the current moments...you are loved a lot and God is and will continue to carry you thru those unsure moments.
You are Special Maureen!! Time for that great big smile :) break. A nice cold Pepsi would probably put a smile on your face to...does the trick for me.

Miss You Catherine Billion
I lit a candle for you today in Mass and am continuing to intercede to our Lord for your cure and asking our Mother and Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos and all the saints to intercede on your behalf. God's will be done in all things. Thank you for the lovely pictures; it gives much encouragement to visually see your smiling face. Have a great weekend.
I love you, Catherine

Maureen - The Blessings of another day! Joan Lentner
The long weekend is fast approaching and I am looking forward to it. I will be taking Friday off and will be driving up North to spend time with my elderly parents. They have lots of little things that need to be taken care of and it's always precious time spent with them. Good and refreshing for my mind and spirits to.
I pray that this will be a weekend of peacefullness and calmness in your life. I know what it's like to anticipate upcoming tests. You try not to worry, but in the back of your mind that day keeps coming up. So until your test results/consultation happen we will be praying for joy, happiness, calmness, peacefullness and the great gift of "hope" as you celebrate another day of life. Of course, we all need to slow down and experience the same thing.
I will do the praying and God will do the blessing...so feel all of those great blessings that will be coming your way.
Enjoy the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Keep "just missing" you at church! Joan Buckley
Hi Maureen,
I keep getting the reports of "I saw Maureen at church" from Dave Stoller on Mondays at school. It is my new challenge to actually choose the RIGHT mass time so that I can report a "Maureen sighting" to Dave!
I have been keeping you in my daily decade of rosary prayers, the one that I say with my kinderkids. Today was my favorite of decade of the Glorious Mysteries (okay, I want to explain to everyone else reading that in Kindergarten, we don't follow the actual rotation of the different mysteries...we just work on the most liturgically connected one at the time.)
Anyways, today's scriptural verses between the beads was telling us about Pentecost - and when we get to the part about the Holy Spirit descending upon the followers like a loud wind...well, those kinderkids really make a great wind noise and then put their forefingers up on their heads for the flame!
So, I was thinking of you today and I continued to envision the Holy Spirit surrounding you and filling you up to the top. When you read this, you might just want to put your forefinger up, too!
My prayers continue for you and your family,
the other Joan
Joan B.

Hey Maureen! Ryan Casey
Spring is here in DC...which also means lots of rain lately! The big news here is that Erin is getting a puppy in a few weeks, a Shiba Inu just like Bode, so he'll have a little brother! Something tells me he won't be too thrilled at first, but he'll have to get used to it.
Other than that, the thing we're most looking forward to next is a trip to Orlando in June. Courtney has to go for work, and Steve and the boys are flying out to join her afterwards. I talked Molly into getting a ticket, and Erin and I are going to drive down. So it should be one big group of fun!
Mike says you're trying to stay busy, so good luck with that! I don't seem to have to try very hard at that lately!
God Bless,
Ryan

Watch out world... Anna Hassel's driving.... Jeanne Hassel
Sorry it has been awhile since we have posted a message... School is out in SD, but summer school has begun. Claire is getting a PE class out of the way this summer so she won't have to take and be sweaty during school (this is so Claire). Anna on the other hand is taking drivers ed... she will take the test tomorrow... She insists that the teachers, whom she will be driving with, are telling her to drive as much as possible before driving with them... Sooooo, more gray hair at the Hassel house. She is actually quite good... all that illegal driving while hunting on farmland with Greg has helped!
We continue to pray for you Maureen. Each morning when I wake and before I fall asleep you are in my prayers. Your beauty comes through each update Maureen. You are loved!
God's Peace,
Jeanne, Greg, Claire, Anna and Maria

Tuesday - a day filled with Blessings for you Maureen Joan Lentner
We are starting another new day and I will be praying that God has lots of healing blessings coming your way.
Spent the long weekend with the folks and it was so good to be with them. My dad is 86 and doing very well...he thinks he should be able to do so much more - can't accept that he might have a few aches and pains because he is just a little older. My sisters and I always put in flowers for my mother so she can enjoy them all summer/fall long. I came back to Mpls and my sister helped me put my flowers in...now the mission will be to keep the hungry rabbits from getting the little plants. Made it 2 days.
As you face the day know that God is and will be giving you all that you need...just for today. I will be going to church at noon and I will be praying for you throughout the day. So that means you can slack off and enjoy Tuesday.

Recent visit Patti Hartog
Maureen...had the best time visiting with you and Mike, thanks for the "western" hospitality...I continue to think of the 2 of you and continue my prayers for you and for Mike...obviously I wish I could do more..although... the hair comment (although it is true) is borderline insensitive (when you've been as hair challenged as I have been for the last several years, you develop some sensitivity to the issue..) hope today was a good one! All the best...Larry

Our prayers continue from Colorado Judy Kludt
Maureen, We continue to send our prayers your way.
I have been out of touch as I spent all last week in the hospital at the bedside of Korbin (our son). He was in a motorcycle accident, he laid the bike down in Deer Creek Canyon last Sunday. We got his call at 9:30 PM - so its been lots of TLC and more prayers, tears and thanking God that he was spared. We are all very grateful. Injuries: 3 broken bones in his face, shattered bones in his right hand - but all in all the Lord, the angels, etc. were watching out for him from above.
You keep up your positive attitude Maureen and we'll keep up the positive thoughts and prayers.
LOVE, from the Kludt family (Paul & Judy)

Hi Maureen! Kathy Miller
Thanks so much for the update, Maureen. We really look forward to hearing from you, and know you are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. I sure wish we didn't live so far away from you. I feel like I don't do enough for you and Mike and family. We love you all so dearly. We spent an overnight at the beach last night, and today the wind was blowing so hard that the waves came up and of course, who shows up but the surfer dude of the family...Kevin. He had Ben and Jack in tow, and they all hit the waves. The little boys have boogie boards, and the current carried them down the beach so fast. They were having a good time. I'm sure they'll sleep really good tonight! When you finish your treatments, we hope you all can come to Florida and chill at the beach condo. Thinking of you and loving you....Kathy

Thinking of You Clint Gibson
Have a good holiday weekend. Our thoughts are with you always. Look forward to hearing good update news in June.
Love from Judy and me,
Clint

PRAYERS CONTINUE FROM COLORADO! Judy Kludt
Maureen, Mike and family. Our prayers continue for your all from our family to yours. As sister, Sharon Casey, says - lives change all the time. We are fortunate that Korbin (our son) is recovering from his motorcycle accident. He is on the mend and once again back home. We feel very blessed and thanks to all that have sent their prayers our way.
Take care and we are thinking positive thoughts for you. Paul & Judy and family.

Steve and Kathy sending hugs! Kathy Miller
Hi Maureen! Steve and I flew out to Utah on Wednesday. We're closer to you, but not close enough. So I will send you a cyber hug!!! MMMMMMMMM!!!! I sure wish I could hug you in person. And stop over with a pie or something. You are in our prayers...of course! We love you. Kathy

Maureen Joan Lentner
I read this last night and found it comforting, "What great humility it takes to say, "Thy will, not mine." Most of us have spiritual cataracts when it comes to seeing what we need to live as God desires, as opposed to what we want for our earthly lives. I recently heard a song that went, "How can I further the work of your kingdom when I'm so wrapped up in my own?" Sadly, we may miss the fact that we are always given exactly what we need. Spend some quiet moments today thinking about a time when you wanted something so badly that you begged God to hear your pleas, but you didn't receive what you wanted.; Think about the way your life unfolded instead. Was it not filled with blessings you never could have imagined? Exactly what you needed? Gracious God, help us to ask rightly and humbly and not to miss your untold gifts to us by focusing on what we did not receive.

I know that once we encounter cancer (such a wake up call in our life) we try to be really focused on our blessings...and I know you are just by reading your updates. It doesn't make your earthly trial right now easier, but it sure is reassuring that we are not walking alone.
May you know and experience all of the blessings God is sending you today. We will do the praying and you get well. What a mission, eh?
Have a great weekend!

Prayers from Mom and Dad Terry Casey
It is a beautiful spring day and we attended Mass for Auntie Lois today. Our special prayers and thoughts are with you today as you search for answers and information. Judy K. was their and sends her love and prayers. We had a great Memorial Day week-end with Hassels visiting, fishing, boating and a jivin band on the Deck for dinner. Terry, Christian and I were kept hopping with tourists as we kick off the summer season. All went well. We have a fine team of help and they seem to be reliable and enthusiastic. Yeah!!!
Love you much, Mom and Dad Casey

May 13, 2008

I hope all you mothers had a very special Mother’s Day. Two of my boys (Connor and JP) and Mike shared the morning with me at early mass, then brunch at the house. There’s nothing better than being together. Joe and Katie, I know you will be here soon, and we will share the same joy with you!

Unfortunately, the CA 125 (tumor counter) result came in at 38, again slightly up. So, no chemo this week. I have a Pet Scan scheduled for Tues, 5/27, and a "film review" with Dr. Janicek on Wed, 6/4. What a roller-coaster this is. I'm feeling good, so the delay will at least be physically tolerable. The nurse indicated this probably means yet a third and different chemo combination. But before drawing too many conclusions, we really need to see the Pet Scan results.

With Florida on fire, tornadoes in the Midwest, China recovering from a major earthquake, and Myanmar's cyclone, it’s hard to think of my news as a big deal. I am praying for all of those afflicted by these disasters.

We have a visitor arriving today. Our friend, Larry Hartog, is a flash from the past. He is an old college friend who introduced Mike and I in the "Copper Dollar" bar, while we were attending USD. I need to get my house together.

Much love to you all,
Maureen

The Prayers are Pouring Out from Madison Robin Schwebach
Hi Maureen ~
It is so good to hear from you and what a wonderful way to communicate. I'm sorry to read that the count was not what you expected, but we always have to remember that "God is Good, All the Time", and "All the Time, God is Good". I am conversing with a teacher from Dell Rapids where I taught 12 years ago with a site called Caring Bridge. She found out in Oct. that she has brain cancer. Anyway, the message from her is "Worry does not empty tomorrow of it's sorrow; it empties today of it's strength" Because I am such a worrier, it gives me comfort. Hope it can do the same to you and yours. God Bless and Keep the Faith!
Your Friend Always,
Robin Schwebach (Zingmark)

MORE PRAYERS FROM COLORADO! Judy Kludt
Maureen: (and family)
Our prayers continue to be sent your way. Thank you for the updates, sometimes I read them but don't get a note sent off to you. May God bless you, your health, your family each day!
Paul & Judy Kludt

Greetings from Steve and Kathy! Kathy Miller
Hi Maureen! Steve and I were glad to read your last update. Even tho we were so far away, we could keep posted on your progress, thanks to the internet. We are thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers, and if the Dr. has to mix up a new chemical cocktail, Grandpa Delos will be looking over his shoulder and marvelling at how far science and medicine have come. We love you and hope you're feeling stronger each day. We also left prayers for you at several churches in Ireland, one being St. Colman's in Cobh. Hugs and kisses for you and Mike and the boys! We miss you so much. Love, Kathy and Steve

Good Morning Maureen Joan Lentner
It's Friday. You came to mind as I was waiting at the bus stop and so before the day gets off and running, I wanted to let you know that even though you got some cancer test results that were a little high just know that we continue with prayer for you. I will again be going to Adoration this Friday afternoon and you can count on be lifted for those extra blessings as you anxiously wait for the upcoming doctor appts./scans. Dealing with things emotionally can be just as hard as physically so hopefully our prayers can ease some of your anxiety. Just know that you are special and that we are connected thru prayer. Wishing a day filled with great blessings that only God can bestow on us.
Happy Friday Maureen! Strength for the day...God will give it to you. Yes, he really will.
Joan

Prayers from Eagan Richard Jorgensen
Maureen,
Each time I read your message, I’m more amazed at your courage and faith. You are truly an inspiration for all of us on how we should live our lives. I’m glad to see you have so much support from your family and friends. Know that all of us here in Eagan are praying for you and your doctors. Love, Dick, Terrie and Jenny.

May 06, 2008

The roller coaster continues. Here's the latest. My tumor count came in at 36 (slightly up). Now, this is a little scary, but there is a possibility that it is due to a bladder infection I developed over the weekend. (It is common for the tumor counter to be falsely elevated by other conditions). In fact, I had a bladder infection the same morning as my last test when it came in at 32.

The doctor is has ordered a re-test of the tumor count for next Monday, and I will have the results Tuesday. If the count turns out to have been falsely elevated, we will resume my chemo treatment plan next Wednesday 5/14. If the count is still elevated, the doctor will order a scan for later in May to hopefully give him an image of what’s happening inside. (The reason for the delay is because an accurate scan requires at least 4 weeks off chemo.) Again, my prayers are for the tumor count to be in normal range. Either way, it is all in God’s plan.

I feel this is a good time to introduce another sister. My sister, Liz (pictured), was the one who made special arrangements to accompany my mother on their visit to Arizona back in April. As fragile as my mother is, this was no easy task. They literally drove through and flew out of a blizzard on the way down! Liz lives in the same town, Madison S.D., where we all grew up. She has been my mother’s primary caregiver for years.

About 18 years ago, Liz lost her first husband at age 36 to a very rare form of cancer. Challenging as it was she went on with life, working and raising their 4 young children, and has since remarried to a wonderful man (Hey, Steve). She openly shares the power of Jesus’ presence, and she serves as a steady reminder that life is not always fair, but God wants us to do the best we can with what He has given us. Her faith is solid as a rock, and her heart as tender as a rose. Liz, you’re incredible.

James 1:2-4
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters,
when you encounter various trials,
for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
And let perseverance be perfect,
so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Again, thank you for all your prayers. I still believe good things are in the works.
Maureen

Hey Maureen! Terrie Jorgensen
Maureen - Prayers are still coming from Minnesota. I am still in awe of your strength...God is doing good work. Have a blessed Mother's Day. Love, Terrie

Hey Maureen Judy Rex
Maureen, we are so sorry that once again you have to go through the uncertainties that this disease presents. You are always in our thoughts and prayers, especially as you have to once more wait. As we leave to visit Joe and Katie, please know that we take with us your love and hugs to share with them. We wish you could be with us in more than spirit.
All our love,
Judy and Mike

Hello Maureen! Joan Lentner
Well we are experiencing a 77 degree day today and it feels wonderful in Minnesota. Kind of like God's warm love shining down on us. Of course we want those warm healing rays to be touching you mentally, physically and spiritually. Wishing you a really good day and know that the prayers are never ending for you. You are truly a fighter and you will beat this cancer...soon.

Maureen - it's the Monday after Mother's Day Joan Lentner
Hoping that you felt well enough to enjoy the day. I have no doubt that you are a very special, loving and compassionate mother who needed a recognition day for all that you have done. Another way to keep your spirits lifted high. I was at Adoration on Friday afternoon and lifted you in prayer...so God has been hearing your name a whole lot...and he will continue to do so. As you begin the week may you feel more strenght each day.

Maureen Joan Lentner
There is no one who could possibly understand what you are physically and emotionally going through, except God. Therefore we offer our prayers to him for all that you need. I always think it's going to be amazing someday when God reveals to us all of the ways he was there for us. For me that will be humbling as I have struggled many times and wondered if there was a God and why wouldn't he ease up on the pain. I have been very human in my life and God has heard from me. :) You know that we would all heal you instantly if we could, so I guess we are healing you thru our prayers. I try to go to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday afternoons and lift you in prayer. We really want you to be rid of the cancer and live life to the fullest. There is tons of hope and it continues to show in your good reports...keep those hopes really high Maureen.
Sending lots of love to help you...just for today.
Joan

Messages are of hope and Gods plan, day by day Dianne Clancy
Your updates have been so very uplifting indeed. Glad to be kept UTD on happenings. It seems so definite that your medical team is very thorough and ready for each event that occurs. It is so fortunate and moreso that you have so many spirit-filled friends and family to be there for you and family. What a true witness of God's love in your sister Liz's life. God's Word has been there and provided that strength. So now Liz is there to witness all that God has done and continues to do in her life. There are so many wonderful scripture verses for us to know and learn for our benefit and to give glory to God. We had a parish weekday Mass said for you about a month ago and you are on our daily prayer request list as we pray the family rosary. Love, from Emmett and Dianne Clancy (sister is Sharon Casey)

Way To Go Discount Tire Company (my employer)!!!!! As my good friend Lisa mentioned in her posting, last Saturday/Sunday, the Discount Tire team participated in the American Cancer Society Relay-For-Life of Scottsdale raising over $4000! They had over 40 relayers on their team for this awesome event. They were top fundraising team and won the “Team Spirit Award.” WOWSER! I was able to make it to the beginning ceremonies, and the initial “survivor” lap, meeting up with the team before they began their long night. Surprisingly they caught me on video giving some opening remarks:
http://www.discounttire.com/relay4life/
(Unfortunately, there were major microphone problems so you’ll have to listen closely, and the very beginning and end are missing.) I’ve also posted some pictures we snapped.

I am truly amazed at the spirit of ALL relayers. Individually you are so special and have a touching story. Collectively you could move a mountain! A special thanks to Lisa Lavely, team captain, to Discount Tire for their sponsorship and participation, and to everyone out there who joined up in this cause last weekend. Way To Go!

No new developments my way. I was expecting to be up on my feet by now, but the last chemo round still has me feeling wiped out. My red count is apparently very low, and the blood transfusion chairs are booked until next week. No more walkathons for a while. I’ll have to resign to my condition and concentrate on my puzzles. My next chemo is scheduled for Wednesday, 5/7.

Until the next posting, may God’s love and blessings of good health and happiness be with you all,
Maureen

You are adorable!!!!! Donna Dominiack
Maureen I am so proud of you. I am sure it was an emotional evening for you. You are such an inspiration to so many people battling this terrible disease. It is people like you that give other people the will to survive. Not everyone can express themselves like you Maureen. You are such a fighter. God is good!!
Take Care,
Donna

Great pictures!! Cindy Adams
Maureen,
You look so beautiful in the relay pictures!! What a wonderful event it must have been. You are sooooo brave to get up and tell your story to all, I'm sure that was extremely difficult. We are gearing up for our local Relay for Life here in Chamberlain to be held on June 28th. I've thought a lot about you during this time, and you will be in our thoughts and prayers that night. Take Care!! Cindy

A special gift for Maureen's loved ones Lisa Lavely
As you probably read in Maureen's last update, "Team Discount Tire" was formed to participate in the Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. We had a great turn out for the event last Saturday. We were the top fund-raising team for this event & we won an award for Best Team Spirit!! Because this team was formed in Maureen’s honor, we were so proud when she agreed to be a speaker at the event!
Please visit this link to see some pictures and watch a video of Maureen’s WONDERFUL speech at the opening ceremonies of the Relay- she has a gift for speaking & is a true inspiration!

Thank you Maureen!!!

Maureen - The Blessings of another day! Joan Lentner
Sure hope by now your strength is returning and that everyday finds you feeling just a little stronger - so that by the time the weekend gets here you can party (just a little). Since we are still celebrating (in spirit with you) all of your good news recently, we want "You" to be the recipient of even more good blessings. When I think of you (which is often) I smile and feel so thankful that God is continuing to bless you in so many positive ways. Isn't that light at the end of the tunnel bright...the past and a lot of the hard/dark days is gone and you can envision life cancer free. That vision of hope is the brightest light out there. Since we know that prayers really really make a difference...you know that mine are going.

Wow! Courtney Powell
Hi Caseys!
Maureen, I was moved by your speech on the video - great job! And it was great to see the pictures from the relay too. I am so proud of Discount Tire for the way they have stood up against cancer...we'll be buying all of our tires there from now on for sure! ;-)
I am sorry I haven't written in a while, but we have been reading the updates and were so happy to hear about Joe and Katie's baby! How exciting!!! And, as you said, just another reason to fight for life!
We have faith in God that He has bigger plans for you, and faith in you to keep up the strong fight. We continue to think of you, Mike and the boys every day.
Love,
Courtney, Steve, Alex and Gabe

April 18, 2008

Last Wednesday’s chemo visit was a happy one. My weight is up an additional 4 lbs. I’m now at 103. The nurses were happy to share the good tumor count news again. My schedule will continue as is, until I’ve completed a full 6 cycles. If there are no delays, God willing, I should be finished with treatments at the end of June.

My prayers, of course, are for the tumor counts to stay in the normal range. With Ovarian cancer, it is common for reoccurrence to take place within 5 years, so I will do my best to fend it off. My plan is to eat right, consuming foods and beverages that cancer does not thrive on. I will do my best to eliminate eating foods containing preservatives and pesticides. In July, I plan to begin a gentle physical therapy routine, working my muscles back into shape. I am still handicapped with memory loss, but that is temporary as the chemo drugs work their way out of my system. My next chemo treatment is Wednesday, April 23rd. It should be uneventful, and I am actually looking forward to plugging through the remainder of my cycles.

A very dear friend, Lisa Lavely, has organized a team for the upcoming “Relay For Life” walkathon for the American Cancer Society. Team “Discount Tire” will be walking April 26th and 27th to raise money for cancer research and programs. The team is up to 40 members, now! Thank you, Lisa, and go team!! Their team page can be found at the link below. You will need to cut/paste it into the Address of your browser:

In previous postings I failed to mention a few things. Our newlyweds (Joe and Katie Casey) are permanently returning from Japan in August, and are expecting Baby Casey in November. And my mother, Jeanne Green, is 85 years old (quite a courageous trip to Scottsdale last week at her age). Most remarkably, she is a “two-time” cancer survivor (Ovarian and Colon). She has taught me the richness of faith, and she is the purest example of unconditional love that I know. I love you, mother.

And I love all of you!
Maureen

Hooray!!! Suzanne Rex
As I'm sure you know yourself, there are not enough words to express the excitement and joy over your wonderful health success!! :) :) :) Smiles and hugs all around! xoxo.

Celebrating Maureen on this Monday! Joan Lentner
Just think...you are so close to being done with chemo. It will be here before you know it. Just know that I will always keep you in prayer even after you are done with chemo. We are going to keep you healthy. I was going to email you at the end of last week but I had computer issues and since I don't have a computer at home I really felt bad. I want to continually keep pumping you up with the positive energies. Spring and summer are here and they are times of new beginnings after the long winters...your new journey of being cancer free is also beginning. I am so happy that you are doing so good, I just want to give you a great big hug...so feel my bear hug all the way from Minnesota. I am smiling as I write this note because I am so very happy for you. Wishing you a Monday to remember which is filled with God's Blessings.

Beer in hand! Kathy Miller
Hi Caseys! Meredith just left to go back home with the kids, and I am opening a beer. I'm going to hold it up high and toast the two of you! I hope you are continuing to feel stronger, Maureen, because we all want you to be able to come down to Florida soon for some beach time. Thinking of you always...and prayers always! Lots of love, Kathy

Thinking of You Elaine DuBois-Karr
Bob and I went to Rocky Point for a long weekend and you were on my mind. The sunsets over the ocean were just so beautiful. I would wake up in the night and the full moon reflected on the ocean so brighly that it seemed like day. God has crafted a beautiful world made even more special by you being in it. Good luck with this round of chemo, you will be in my heart and prayers.
Love,
Elaine

Wonderful Example Linda & Max Selig
What a wonderful example of courage and faith your mother is. To think she survived the same diagnosis must give you great hope for the future. She is a living example that it can be done. No wonder your spirits soar when she is around. I lost my mother to uterine cancer. She lived to 84, however, and I thank God for each day she was with me. Good luck with those last treatments. Lin Selig

Maureen - Mondays are Wonderful! Joan Lentner
They are for you now that you have such positive news in your life. Your update was so refreshing and filled with tons of hope. There is always "Hope" in all situations. I still smile when I read your updates because I know that God has answered our prayers in such positive ways. That doesn't mean we can slack off with the prayers, but we can rejoice with you and thank God often. Again, my sincere congratulations on your wonderful news. Feel the hug I am sending you. Wishing only the best of days this week...each one getting better and better for you.
