January 03, 2008

Maureen was having some nausea and vomiting last weekend and her doctor asked that we check her into the hospital on New Year's Day. We think the problem has been identified as a residual fluid buildup. You'll recall from earlier postings that Maureen had a large amount of fluid buildup leading up to her initial surgery and subsequent to that surgery. We thought we had it all out, but what we also shared with you earlier was this "compartmentalization" that was occuring in her stomach as a result of the surgery and healing process. This compartmentalization had in fact trapped some fluids in her lower abdomen, which needs to be removed. This can be done relatively easy and w/o surgery. It's also relatively painless for Maureen. This is being done today, January 3rd.

Unfortunately this has again delayed our scheduled chemo treatment. Our doctor is not overly concerned about this. Obviously, we would like to get on with killing this cancer. Understand the "Catch 22" here with the infection needing to heal and the chemo lowering your blood count. Right now, the infection is the priority and we're taking care of it.

Maureen is really doing quite well. I was with her last night, where we were watching the Tostito's Fiesta Bowl on TV. She was fasting for her procedure today, but crying out for some Tostitos and dip! Her appetite has returned and even though she was on a liquid diet yesterday, she consumed well. Her color is good and all vitals are fine. She had become malnourished and dehydrated, but now we have that back under control.

We hope to get Maureen home soon and posting her progress to you all. Thank you for your prayers and support. Mike.

We're missing you and the sunshine you bring to all of our lives. So sorry to hear of your most recent difficulties and so elated to hear that you are overcoming them and feeling better.

Prayers To You Maureen, Mike and family Deb Keenan
Not a day goes by where you do not cross my mind Maureen. We saw Terry and Sharon over Christmas break when we were up to Sioux Falls visiting. Reading your messages is somehow encouraging to me...I think it's suppose to be the other way around. Your faith and strength are amazing and will continue to help you through this journey. I believe that alone, along with the help of the wonderful physicians will keep bringing you one day closer to recovery. Know that we continue to pray for you and your family.

Happy New Year Terrie Jorgensen
We're wishing you additional strength in 2008. Your strength has been amazing and we want it to continue. I'm talking about the entire family - not just Maureen. I'm glad that Maureen's appetite is back and she will be eating "nachos" soon. Maureen - I'm sorry that you're back in the hospital, but it sounds like that is where you need to be to heal. The prayers are continuing for you in the Jorgensen household - we love you! Terrie

When you feel better catch a few feel good movies... Jeanne Hassel
Maria, Claire and I hit the movie theater last weekend for a few feel good, no brainer movies we loved - Mr. Magorium Magical Emporium - here is a quote... "Your life is an Occassion... rise to it" Dustin Hoffman has some wonderful one liners that are a real treat. Made me smile all day! The other one was The Martian Child... loved it!
You are so loved Maureen, Mike, JP, Connor....! God's healing grace!
Let's get you HOME!!!! Love you!
Jeanne, Greg, Claire, Anna and Maria

Okay, Maureen, I am on the piano once again (revert to kinderkid mentality and take this literally...please chuckle here.)
Today, I will continue to sing "Flow River, Flow" by Bob Hurd. This is my comfort song. "Flow river, flow. Flow over me. Oh Living Water poured out for me; Oh Living Water flow over me."
I would play this for you, but it has 3 flats (one too many for my fingers!)
Holy Spirit, come now, stay, and fill Maureen with your healing presence.
